SPRING & SUMMER MUST-HAVES:

Although NYFW just got us all excited for Fall and Winter trends, we can’t forget about Spring and Summer first! I am itching for warmer weather the wind in Boston has been brutal lately.  I’m sure you’re all excited to switch over your wardrobes, and get some sun too!  I thought I would share some of my Spring & Summer must-haves closet pieces in this [very long] post! Here’s a glance at an easy and do-able guide…

La Mariposa

I’ll bet you have at least one of the items I highlight here in your closet already: a shirt with stripes, something leopard, black & white pieces, a pair of wedges… am I right? If not, you could, and should, invest in one or two.  You don’t need to get the exact piece you see here, just follow the pattern, color and/or shape guidelines, and you’re good to go.  Keep in mind, these are pieces you can wear throughout coming seasons as well, so you aren’t just wasting money on a quick fad.

Who would’ve thought black & white could be such a hit? Simple and chic… black & white is always timeless and classy. You can always get the B&W combo by using solids of each piece and pairing them together, if you don’t have a mixed item of clothing. Regardless of how you do it, make sure you do: Black Polka Dot Top & White Tuxedo Pants.

These cut-out sandals are ideal! I found these at Lulus, but I’ve seen them at DSW, Modcloth, and Ruche (just to name a few places).  If you want to be stylish yet comfortable, check them out- they are perfect!

Peplum tops and bottoms are so flattering (yes, even if you have hips!) and have continued to be a popular silhouette.  I found this top at Forever 21, and I am dying to buy it in the other colors.  The material is soft, and it was less than $11- I see myself wearing this to work, out for the night, or casually on a weekend- really, an unbeatable catch! And if you’re wondering about the flared jeans… they are the Jiselle Phenomenal Flare from 7 for All Mankind.  I’ll keep the hems long so I can wear them with big wedges (but touch the floor).  If you’re looking for flared pants, search for a pair that fits snug all the way to the knee, then breaks open.  They’ll look slimming and won’t be as “relaxed” as a regular flare is.

And as far as statement necklaces go, the Maldives necklace from S&D is beyond versatile and gorgeous. It plays with blues & green shades in a unique way, and I feel like I can pair it with a casual t-shirt or a sophisticated work blouse.

You can never go wrong with florals in warm weather.. especially when combined with ruched sleeves.  I snagged this catch at Forever 21, but it sold out online.  Here’s a similar look. Because this top fits snug and is all things feminine, it is great to pair with some boyfriend jeans.  I recently found a comfortable and cute pair at JCrew Factory, but if you have boyfriend pants (or any loose-jean that you can cuff-up) that will do the trick, too!

Friendship bracelets and small bangles make for great summer accessories.  All four of these are from S&D (Top to Bottom: Eden Bangle, Foundation Bracelet, Ella Bracelet, Hudson Leather Wrap).  Mixing colors with these stackable bracelets keeps them playful, and adding a metallic tone will take them from the children’s to the adult’s friendship bracelet.

Stripes & Animal Prints are a must.  Must I say more?  And while people say stripes make you loo big, it isn’t always true. This dress is old, but can be found on sale still at The Limited.  As for animal print… this scarf is, (surprise!) from S&D. Belts, shoes, and scarves are fun and easy outfit additions that are very fun, yet classy in animal prints. Try one out!

Bright & Bold colors are perfect for sunny days… why not shine as bright as the sun, right?! :) A solid dress like this yellow number is gorgeous alone, but it’s a show-stopper when paired with a statement necklace. The Olivia Bib from Stella & Dot is an affordable and versatile bib necklace.  I’ve used it with dark purples, cobalt blue, black, pale pinks, and neons.

The leopard belt (yes, another animal piece- similar here!) adds some spice to the look, and the wedges… well, what don’t they do?! The  heel has laser-cuts to add extra detail, and the beading is intricate and unique.  I bought them a bit ago from Shi, but I am also loving this bright pair, this metallic pair, and this detailed pair.

The last item you should have in your closet, or rather, on your lips, is a light-pink lipstick or gloss. My two favorites are “Pink Parfait” and “Pink Cherie” via my Mary Kay consultant, Maureen.

I hope this guide will help you in picking out some new outfits in the coming months.  You’ll see me wearing these in the coming posts… like, tomorrow’s!  :)

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy!
